pointer   Dr. Linda Behar-Horenstein


Dr. Linda Behar-Horenstein is Distinguished Teaching Scholar
and Professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Policy. She joined the UF faculty in the Fall of 1992 after receiving the Ph.D. degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola University of Chicago, an M.A. in Guidance and
Counseling from Roosevelt University, and a B.A. from Lawrence University. Dr. Behar-Horenstein teaches graduate courses in school curriculum, evaluation, curriculum design, models of teaching, and research design in educational administration.

During the last five years her scholarly work has focused on the theory to practice connections in curriculum and improving instructional practice by: studying the nature of teaching practice in professional and clinical learning environments, and public schools; analyzing teachers' beliefs and use of instructional strategies; studying faculty responses to educational change; describing school culture; and analyzing educators' efforts to teach critical thinking skills.

Dr. Behar-Horenstein holds an affiliate faculty position in Florida's College of Dentistry, has served as a consultant to dental schools in the US and Canada and medical schools in the US, including the University of Florida's Shands Hospital for the past seven years. She over 65 publications including books, book chapters and refereed articles. Some of her published work appears in Curriculum & Teaching and Educational Theory and Practice in Australia, Educational Horizons, the Journal of Dental Education, the Journal of Educational Administration, and The High School Journal.

Dr. Behar-Horenstein is a member of the Professors of Curriculum (a national group of distinguished professors elected for their contributions to research and teaching in curriculum studies). She won a university-based Teaching Improvement Award in 1996, a university-based Dissertation Mentor/Advisor Award in Spring 2006, and became a member of UF's Teaching Scholars Academy in the summer of 2006.

Gail Schneider Mitchell is a faculty member in the Department
of Community Dentistry and Behavioral Sciences at the
University of Florida College of Dentistry and currently serves
as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Her responsibilities include curriculum management and evaluation, instructional evaluation and faculty development.

Gail has a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education from Florida State University and a Master's in Public Health
from Emory University. She also has an advanced training and certification in Geriatrics and Gerontology from the University of Florida Geriatric Education Center, and in Health Professions Curriculum and Instructional Leadership from the University of Florida College of Education.

Gail has been involved in allied health and dental education for 27 years. She has published research in the areas of teaching and learning and pursues educational interests focused on learning preferences, teaching methodologies and development of critical thinking skills in learners.
